We don’t need new laws for Twitter trolls

yo.

something different today coming from the guardian to all you trollz out there.

A spokesman for the Police Federation, Steve Evans, told Today: “The sheer scale of it is huge. Police resources are stretched almost to breaking point, so if we started trying to investigate every instance of stupidity within Twitter, then we would be really pushed.”

The body representing Britain’s chief police officers has rejected calls for new laws to govern how the police deal with the abuse of Twitter, saying that problems may eventually be resolved by the microblogging website itself.

The intervention by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) comes amid a debate over the policing of Twitter following a number of recent cases, including the arrest of a teenager in connection with tweets directed at Olympic diver Tom Daley and the jailing of a student for inciting racial hatred by tweeting about the footballer Fabrice Muamba.

Stuart Hyde, the chief constable of Cumbria, who speaks on e-crime for Acpo, said that it was right for police to intervene where individuals’ lives were being made a misery by Twitter “trolls”, but insisted that it was important for forces to take a “common sense” approach.

Asked if new laws were needed, Hyde told BBC Radio 4′s Today programme: “No, I think we have got quite a lot of legislation, dating back to the Malicious Communications Acts of 1998 and 2003. There is a lot there that helps us and gives us the power to do stuff.

Urban Scale Wars // uninhabited city of Marnehuizen

Good morning rockstars (lol)

Marnehuizen is a Dutch false and uninhabited city included in the military camp of Marnewaard, near Groningen.

The city provides the army a stage to simulate future urban combats, emergencies and raids, and it consists of a number of streets, some dwellings, a section of railways with a train station, a bank, a supermarket, a warehouse and even a sewers systems. Europe prepares for what is already happening in Athens and what is probably going to happen again in metropolis under siege like London and Paris.

Backstabbing 3.04 // Frank “Site-Specific” Gehry

we were having a totally drunk discussion with a starchitect –no names are gonna be reveiled…..backstabbing is a very sneaky game– last night and he brought to our attention a quite funny incident.

Frank “Site specific” Gehry did it again.

it was nearly impossible for the squat team

to get a clear shot of the cleveland shooter in the museum!!

no kidding…

article on the story that our hounds dug up :

“It took police more than seven hours to shoot and capture the gunman who opened fire in the newly opened Peter B. Lewis Building for Case Western’s business school. It was ”almost a cat and mouse game,” said Cleveland Police Chief Edward Lohn. Why so long? “As the SWAT team entered the building, they were constantly under fire,” Lohn said. “They couldn’t return fire because of the design of the building. They didn’t have a clear shot.”

The design, of course, is by Frank Gehry, an architect whose work has never been described as “SWAT-team-friendly.” [Since when is "designed to give a clear shot" considered a desirable building feature?! -ed.] Gehry was brought in by Lewis, Cleveland’s biggest philanthropist (except when he’s cutting off all the cultural organizations in the city and calling for the replacement of CWRU’s entire board. Another story.), to work a little of that Bilbao magic, to create an instantly recognizable architectural signature, an icon, his (Gehry’s? or Lewis’s?) own Fallingwater. [Insert Falling Ice joke here.]

In a moment of Any Publicity is Good Publicity, perhaps, Cleveland’s mayor gloated of the city’s newest signature architecture: “This building now becomes a homicide site,” a backhanded reference to Bilbao, Spain, where Basque terroristsfailed to blow up Gehry’s Guggenheim building (with grenades in flower pots in Jeff Koons’ Puppy actually. Bilbao still wins on style. Another digression.)”
