[SO] back // Ups & Downz

hallo germany, hallo Europez

what an action packed april this one has been…or not. The truth is that the FG team has been keeping one eye out for random lols here and there… Truth is that there were quite a few of them, but we aint no haterz, so were not gonna focus only one the bad side…

So lets start with our Ups and Downz for April.

UP #1

Now, we all know that we are not so in fond of SciArc and their tactics but we have to admit it when we see something we actually like. Figuring on the top, and only entry, of the UP category this random chinese dude, who DISSOBEYED his tutors instructions to FULLY PARAMETRISIZE his project, amd had the balls to use his Photoshop skillz for once in that school…No need to say this guy failed his semester…lolzz

-like bringing knives to a gunfight..wa?-

*FG approved*

yes yes, we know that every time your first year tutor asks you do find some refferences for your project, most of you botz run like headless chickens to Dezeen’s homepage, but..

Unfortunately the most interesting articles lately on dezeen are the mixtape articles from five years ago…

So, what up with our so precious idols…?no, seriously…

Zaha is like trying to boost her popularity through random design fairs( last she was spotted at Milan’s Design Fair, being interviewed by a random chinese dezeen intern…’nuff said), Gehry is still locked in his private room, having an eye-to-eye showdown with a koutsomoura*(scroll down to see what koutsomoura means) in order to find inspiration, and The BIG is still playing his ball-even though his playing volleyball with tennis balls…- and Rem has gone guerilla, withdrawn in russia and launching his strategic operations, undercover mode.

guys, hire an image consultant, new 3d monkeys, more hot secretaries…

And for the end, another classical case of

Materialise.MGX’s lamp from 2007…

Jordan Hodgson, from the Royal College of Art in da Londan

Leaving it to you to judge who copied who…

*koutsomoura : is a native Mediterranean fish (very ugly and very funny )

Perspective Drawing // Extracts of Local Distance

the power of the drawing, discover your project through ur drawings, try to design in perspective, killer drawing, bla bla bla

Someone actually googled “draw like in presidents medals” and landed in the FG = Lolz

Anyway, here is a set of different perspective drawings, created by existing photos of buildings. The collages look ultra-cool but since the same technique is used in every photo-reference, once youve seen the result 2-3 times it becomes ultra-repetitive.

Still cool at the moment, so enjoy!

Rear Window \\ Visual Installation

based on footage from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” (1954)

Jeff Desom( freelance director, film maker),

introduced a project that took him 6 weeks for completeness as a final time-lapse video

Software used: After Effects / Photoshop / Coffee

Fo and Go

”I dissected all of Hitchcock’s Rear Window and stiched it back together in After Effects. I stabilized all the shots with camera movement in them. Since everything was filmed from pretty much the same angle I was able to match them into a single panoramic view of the entire backyard without any greater distortions. The order of events stays true to the movie’s plot.”

High Line 3 // New York – Diller Scofidio + Renfro

still surfing the “SS” zone, we repost from architizer the new Scofidio project just released.

“At a crowded public meeting last night in Chelsea, landscape architect James Corner and architect Ricardo Scofidio presented the first renderings of the preliminary design for the High Line, Phase 3. The project, which is expected to be completed by 2014 at a cost of $90 million, will extend in several directions: the “Spur”, a new urban node hovering above the junction of 30th Street and 10th Avenue, complete with….Keep reading here

OMA // 24 hours Museum, Paris

!opening in Paris at the Palais d’Iéna [yesterday]

The 24-hour Museum, a collaboration between AMO, Prada and artist Francesco Vezzoli, opens in Paris on Tuesday night at the Palais d’Iéna, a modernist pavilion built by Auguste Perret in 1937. The one-off event – including an opening night party, public and press tours, and visits by schoolchildren – will be a staging of a “fake” museum, examining the modes in which art is presented and consumed, and the role of the museum as a social condensor.
AMO’s Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli comments: “This is a new step in the ongoing collaboration between AMO and Prada. For us, it’s an opportunity to question the conditions of the museum we so often encounter.”

AMO has designed three types of exhibition spaces for the concrete interiors of the Palais d’Iéna: one classical and propagandistic, framed by the monumental curving stairs; one experimental contemporary, featuring a cage surrounding the main hall, illuminated with pink neon; and one named “Storage or Salon de Refusés”, inspired by forgotten museums and warehouses. Vezzoli’s statues – featuring the faces of contemporary celebrities – will be installed throughout the spaces.

The result is an ephemeral “total museum” that hosts a sequence of rituals unfolding through the 24 hours.
