All those Cages

All those Cages

some wise thoughts by the artist on his influences / inspiration

”I know that a lot of you are curious to get more information about the abandoned places in my photos and I receive a lot of questions about them.
There is a reason that I don’t give any though. I do love abandoned buildings, I see so much beauty in those places. Unfortunately, many people don’t.
I do act very respectful inside those places, but there are too many idiots out there that don’t behave like me.
I’ve seen so much vandalism, theft and other bad things happening to those buildings after they have become popular, that I will do all I can to protect those beauties.
Therefore, I don’t give any infos about the location (not even the country) or history about them since every little piece of info makes it easier for people to find it.
I’ll gladly help you with any info about all non-decay related shots, but there is no chance I tell anything about the decaying beauties. No exceptions.
Please respect that and don’t post any info in the comments, they will be deleted without warning.”

compilation of student work from Eye,Robot  at SCI-Arc Fall 2012.

“Eye, Robot” focuses on the intersection of computation, robotic fabrication, and cinematography. The course explores robotic motion control as a creative medium for designers, mainly through the use of the custom robotic animation software platform, designed specifically for the SCI-Arc Robot House. The platform has the unique ability for the designer not only to design motion, but also to program, simulate, and speculate all at the same time. This type of animation space suspends the distinction between simulation, speculation, and ‘the real’, making it very hard for one to determine which is which while questioning traditional notions of architectural representation.[click for gallery]

Inspiration \\ NYC skyline drawn from memory

Stephen Wiltshire has the amazing talent of drawing city skylines from memory. Having spent only a few hours in a helicopter flying from Brooklyn to the tip of Manhattan, he memorized the city skyline and headed back to a studio, where he spent the next 3 days sketching the skyline.

After spending the early years of his life as a mute London-born Stephen found his voice through drawing. Later diagnosed with autism, drawing began to be the way he communicated with the world. At age nine he began to speak and his art continued to flourish.

Using his drawing’s to help him learn and encouraged by his family, Stephen created a series of 26 coded pictures to help him speak, all of which corresponded to a letter in the alphabet. He uses only graphic pens as he commits his photographic memory to the high-grade paper.

“ Do the best you can and never stop. Until every detail is perfect, we will not rest. ”

The panoramic drawing will be featured on a billboard that will be displayed at JFK airport terminal. Wiltshire’s New York panorama will complete his collection of nine works depicting some of the world’s most iconic cities — London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Rome, Madrid, Frankfurt, Dubai, and Jerusalem.

Well done.

Einstein’s God

”The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws.”

SAMSARA Theatrical Trailer

SAMSARA will be in theaters across the USA August 24th.

For full theater and international release dates visit barakasamsara.com/theaters

ABOUT SAMSARA:

Prepare yourself for an unparalleled sensory experience. SAMSARA reunites director Ron Fricke and producer Mark Magidson, whose award-winning films BARAKA and CHRONOS were acclaimed for combining visual and musical artistry.

SAMSARA is a Sanskrit word that means “the ever turning wheel of life” and is the point of departure for the filmmakers as they search for the elusive current of interconnection that runs through our lives. Filmed over a period of almost five years and in twenty-five countries, SAMSARA transports us to sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial sites, and natural wonders. By dispensing with dialogue and descriptive text, SAMSARA subverts our expectations of a traditional documentary, instead encouraging our own inner interpretations inspired by images and music that infuses the ancient with the modern.

Expanding on the themes they developed in BARAKA (1992) and CHRONOS (1985), SAMSARA explores the wonders of our world from the mundane to the miraculous, looking into the unfathomable reaches of man’s spirituality and the human experience. Neither a traditional documentary nor a travelogue, SAMSARA takes the form of a nonverbal, guided meditation. Through powerful images, the film illuminates the links between humanity and the rest of nature, showing how our life cycle mirrors the rhythm of the planet.
