compilation of student work from Eye,Robot  at SCI-Arc Fall 2012.

“Eye, Robot” focuses on the intersection of computation, robotic fabrication, and cinematography. The course explores robotic motion control as a creative medium for designers, mainly through the use of the custom robotic animation software platform, designed specifically for the SCI-Arc Robot House. The platform has the unique ability for the designer not only to design motion, but also to program, simulate, and speculate all at the same time. This type of animation space suspends the distinction between simulation, speculation, and ‘the real’, making it very hard for one to determine which is which while questioning traditional notions of architectural representation.[click for gallery]

Spare Knowledge \\ HAWT sauce on Black Holes

Lets say we LIKE the cosmos theory and we EVEN MORE adore the experimental predictions of artistic scopes taken . Aggro-style Thursday from the block — yOu arch minionz love evolving through that stuff from the FG.   .gogogo.

Smash It Up

Here Come The Warm Jets

Combining observations done with ESO’s Very Large Telescope and NASA’s Chandra X-ray telescope, astronomers have uncovered the most powerful pair of jets ever seen from a stellar black hole. The black hole blows a huge bubble of hot gas, 1000 light-years

Radio Waves

This artist’s concept shows a galaxy with a supermassive black hole at its core. The black hole is shooting out jets of radio waves. New research led by theoretical astrophysicist David Garofalo of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California

Eat to the Beat

Artist’s schematic impression of the distortion of space-time by a supermassive black hole at the center of a galaxy. The black hole will swallow dark matter at a rate which depends on its mass and on the amount of dark matter around it.

Beware of the Blob

This illustration shows what one of the galaxies inside a blob might look like, with the spiral arms of the galaxy in yellow and white, and two-sided outflow powered by the supermassive black hole buried inside shown in bright yellow.

Camouflage Subdivision [pt.071-16]

-mostly for air protection, a rural subdivision camouflage was synthesized by the Army Corps of Engineers during the WWII for hidden airplane production. it was located and known as the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant for obvious(!) protection from enemies.

Optical Aberrations by Jim Kazanjian

yo. its nice to appreciate people’s inspiration even more if it is transplanted into really nice work — a seriously considered example is Jim, who just uses random photographs to create a form of nonexistent space furthermore connecting the dots in his own way in order to form a photograph .. hmm .. another thing that must be stated is his no-relation with the ‘taking a photo’ process- which makes the uniqueness on what he creates even more special –

- to get more in his boots -

”My current body of work is inspired in large part by the literature of H.P. Lovecraft and other ‘weird’ fiction writers. I am intrigued with the narrative archetypes they utilize to de-familiarize the familiar. I like to use those devices as a foundation to build upon and generate entry points for my images.”

Utopian Paintings by Philadelphia artist Jaime Treadwell

Jaime Treadwell is by far the favorite artist of the day here at the FG. His drawings although they seem happy and colorful they convey a great deal of spatial understanding and architectural representation

Philadelphia artist Jaime Treadwell depicts vividly patterned and brightly colored utopian environments in his paintings. These are gypsy-like party communities filled with dancing figures surrounded by unusual urban motifs bursting with geometrical confetti like forms. These figures appear to be disconnected from society and self sufficiently blissful in their detached nomadic habitats. Each piece is jam packed with symbolism from the religious blue statues and white swans to more common urban elements like beach balls. – Jane Kenoyer

Briefcase House (2010)

Briefcase House (2010)

Located inside a warehouse loft of 1400 sf with no partition, this project is a house within a house. The design engages two architectural issues: inside/outside and S/XL. It compacts the material possessions of the subject into one oversized briefcase – so large that the subject sleeps inside of it. The residual gap outside of the Briefcase House to the limits of the warehouse loft can be considered a super wall-cavity and rendered as blackened thick wall in an architectural plan. Converseley, when the subject occupies the wall-cavity for other activities, the house can be considered a solid obstruction. This project delineates the qualification of conceptual poche by the swerve of the figure and ground and the of blackening the thick-wall or the private volume.

The project pays homage to Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and the paintings of Lucio Fontana and Robert Motherwell. The core of the Farnsworth House is key in producing the four architectural programs without erecting one single wall. Like the core of the Farnsworth House, the presence of the Briefcase House inside this warehouse carves out distinct dimensions for appropriate activities. Sitting on castors, the house can be rolled around to distort program proportions. The paintings of Fontana and Motherwell heighten the awareness of negative spaces. As an obstruction, the Briefcase House is a permanent cut on the canvas that gives birth to a new healthy body.
