Duchenne’s Facial Expressions

Here are the plates from Duchenne de Bolougne’s Le Mécanisme de la Physionomie Humaine (ca 1876), an interesting but slightly insane work (you just can’t get away with this type of thing anymore). The images, however, are useful to artists who draw, sculpt, or model facial expressions as they show extreme activation of the individual muscles of expressions.
